Townsend's Season Recognized Once Again
June 11, 2010 from ABCA Website - Allen Townsend's incredible season was once again recognized, as he was named 2nd Team All Pacific Association Division. The PAD is made up of players from California, Oregon and Washington, to form the western section of the ABCA.
Mike Hachadorian Taken by the Yankees in the MLB Draft
June 9, 2010 - Mike Hachadorian was taken by the New York Yankees in the 33rd round of the MLB draft, making him the 5th Mesa College player in the last five years to receive a call from the professional ranks. Mike had previously signed a scholarship offer form San Diego State University, which he will most likely attend next season. A strong student in the classroom, Mike carries a 3.88 GPA, and will continue his education both in the classroom and on the field to improve his draft status for the 2011 season.
Blauer Taken by the Royals in the MLB Draft
June 9, 2010 - After transfering Pt. Loma Nazarene University, Chad Blauer was rewarded for his out standing senior year, being taken in the 30th round by the Kansas City Royal in the MLB draft.
Blauer went 13-2 for the Sea Lions in 2010 to go with a 3.57 ERA and 103 strikeouts. The 6-3, 215 pound pitcher from Huntington Beach, Calif. held opposing hitters to a .235 batting average and threw five complete games. But what probably opens scouts' eyes was how he stepped up in the post season for PLNU.
Blauer helped No. 17-ranked PLNU finish tied for third at the NAIA World Series by throwing three complete games in the postseason. In the NAIA opening round championship game, he fanned 16 batters against No. 7-ranked British Columbia. He then and struck out 11 batters in both of his World Series triumphs versus No. 14 Belhaven (Miss.) and No. 6 Oklahoma City.
In two seasons at Point Loma, Blauer, who transferred from San Diego Mesa College, put together a 19-7 record and notched 158 strikeouts.
Townsend Elected to All-American Team
5-21-2010 Fresno, CA - Allen Townsend was selected to the California Community College All-American team Friday morning as the top reliever in the state. Townsend, who has signed with #6 Oklahoma City University, led the state with 12.38 strikeouts per game, finished the season with a 5-5 record and 77 strikeouts in 56 innings.

Sophomore's commit to NCAA I Programs
Two sophomore's have signed letters with Division 1 programs, San Diego State University and Northeastern University. Mike Hachadorian will move on to SDSU, while Jimmy Filter has agreed to attend Northeastern.
Allen Townsend has also agreed to attend NAIA #6 ranked, Oklahoma City University.
Townsend, Haupt and Dempsey Earn All-PCAC
May 5, 2010 - Mesa College had three players make the All-PCAC team this year, with three more making Honorable Mention. Allen Townsend made first team as a relief pitcher, Dillon Haupt was first team Catcher and Myles Dempsey made the team as an infielder
Allen Townsend finished the season with 44.2 innings pitched, allowing 38 hits while striking out 62 in conference games. On the season, Allen threw 56 innings, giving up 50 hits and striking out 77. Allen also led the state in strikeouts per game at 12.38 / 9 innings.
Dillon Haupt hit .356 in league contests with 10 doubles, 3 triples and 1 home run. Dillon also drove in 26 runs to lead Mesa. For the season, Dillon hit .351 collecting at least one hit in 31 out of 36 games.
Myles Dempsey hit .343 in conference play, with 19 RBI and 21 runs scored. Myles also hit .342 for the season, stealing 11 bases in 14 attempts.

Mesa Takes Two From Imperial Valley
March 19, 2010 - Freshman Zac Pettiford started on the mound Friday morning in the first of two games against Imperial Valley giving up seven hits and two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. Allen Townsend finished the game throwing 4 2/3 innings recording eight strikeouts without giving up an earned run. The Mesa bats were shut down by the Arab’s starter, Jacob Sanchez, through the first five innings, allowing just two hits. It wasn't until the top of the sixth when an Olympians rally began with AJ Herrera reaching base with a hit-by-pitch. Freshman Myles Dempsey, Brett Balkan and Dillon Haupt followed with back to back to back singles, scoring both Herrera and Dempsey. The Olympians were able to score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two out single by freshman Kyle Ginter, followed by Herrera being hit by another pitch. Myles Dempsey would score both runners with a single to left. With a one run deficit to the Arabs, the Olympians would start the bottom of the ninth inning with a hit-by-pitch from sophomore Alejandro Galvan. He would be pinch ran for by freshman outfielder Anthony Diaz, fresh off of the disabled list. A ball thrown into center field by Imperial’s catcher would allow Diaz to reach third on a missed hit-and-run. An error by Imperials third baseman would allow Diaz to score. A throwing error would allow Herrera to reach third. With Herrera on third base as the go ahead run, Myles Dempsey would line a game winning single into left field. Final score, Mesa 6, IVC 5.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Hachadorian would start the second game of the double-dip against Imperial Valley. He would record 4 innings pitched, giving up two earned runs and striking out five. Sophomore Thomas Landeros would finish the game throwing five scoreless innings and striking out six. The Olympian offense would waste no time, scoring one in the first with an RBI single by freshman Myles Dempsey. A two out RBI single by freshman Anthony Diaz would scratch another run on the board for the Olympians in the second. An RBI double by Kyle Ginter among three walks by Dillon Haupt, Daniel Galvan and Anthony Diaz would add four more runs to the Olympian total. A triple by Haupt in the seventh would later score, increasing Mesa’s lead over the Arabs’ seven to two. Final score Mesa 7, IVC 2.
Mesa Pounds G-House
March 16, 2010 - The Olympians jumped out to an early 3-run lead on Tuesday with three runs in the top of the first inning, started by AJ Herrera getting hit by the first pitch of the game. Myles Dempsey followed with a ground ball to short, who bobbled the ball and Jimmy Filter followed with an RBI single to score Herrera. Dillon Haupt drove in Dempsey with an RBI single and Brett Balkan followed with another hit batter. The third RBI of the inning came from a base hit by Daniel Galvan. The Griffins responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd on two home runs off of starter Josh Maxwell, but he would settle down and hold them to one more run in his 4 2/3 innings of work. Mesa broke the game open with three in the sixth and four more in the seventh to take a 10-5 advantage.
In the 6th, Lance McFeely and Justin Lawrence opened the inning with back to back base hits followed by a sacrifice bunt by Alejandro Galvan. AJ Herrera drove in McFeely with a sac fly and Lawrence scored on Dempsey's base hit up the middle. Jimmy Filter followed with an RBI base hit to score Dempsey from second. The 7th inning mirrored the 6th with a base hit by McFeely, and a walk by Lawrence. Galvan put down down another sacrifice bunt and AJ Herrera drove in a run with a sac fly. Dempsey and Filter each followed with base hits, and Dillon Haupt walked to load the bases. Brett Balkan drove in two more runs with a base hit up the middle.
Although the Olympians would add another run in the 8th, it would not be needed as Allen Townsend would shut the Griffins down by striking out 8 in 4 1/3 innings of work. Final score Mesa 11, Grossmont 6
Mesa Suffers Second Loss in League
March 11, 2010 - Mesa hosted Grossmont College for the start of the second round of league games, and the Griffins came out swinging with two runs in the first, and added two more in the fourth. That would be all the support they would need as Mesa could only scratch out one run in the ball game. Starter Zac Pettiford threw five innings, giving up seven hits and striking out three Grossmont hitters. Allen Townsend finished the game, holding the Griffins to one hit in four innings, while striking out four. Offensively, the Olympians hit the ball hard, lining out six times on the afternoon, in addition to their four hits, but had nothing to show for it. Final score Mesa 1, Grossmont 4
Olympians Loss Leaves Them In A Tie For First
March 9, 2010 - In a battle of the top two teams in the PCAC, Southwestern beat Mesa to move into a tie at the top of the PCAC at 4-1. Mesa recorded one run off nine hits, but fell short of Southwestern's seven runs off of thirteen hits. Final score Mesa 1, Southwestern 7.
Olympians Beat City in the 10th, Move to 4-0
March 5, 2010 - With rain again expected for Saturday, the game against City was moved to Friday and once again it proved to be a good move for Mesa. Mike Hachadorian made his first start for the Olympians, giving up only two runs in four innings of work. Sean Bavard threw the next four innings, allowing just one run. Mesa was able to score one run in the top of the 5th with an RBI by freshman, second baseman Myles Dempsey. Trailing 3-1 In the top of the ninth, left fielder Brett Balkan hit a two-out single through the left side. With the Olympians down to their last strike, Jimmy Filter hit a two-run home run to tie the game. Thomas Landeros threw the ninth holding the Knights without a run, while sophomore Alejandro Galvan, who was 3 for 4 on the day, drove in the go ahead run with a base hit through the right side in the top of the tenth. Landeros set the Knights down in order in the tenth to record his first win of the season. Final score Mesa 4, City 3
Mesa Shuts Down Palomar
March 4, 2010 - In a game that was pushed back to a 2:30pm start time due to wet grounds at Palomar, Mesa came out swinging with four runs in the first inning, and never looked back. Freshman left fielder, Brett Balkan, hit a single to left to start the game off, and Jimmy Filter hit the next pitch over the fence in left center. The Olympians continued the scoring in the first with a single by Lance McFeely, and walk by Dillon Haupt, and RBI base hits by Danny Galvan and AJ Herrera. Palomar was able to close the gap in the third inning with a two-run home run to right by center fielder Jeremy Cline, but that is all that the runs Mesa would give up on the day. The Olympians added one more run in the top of the 4th, and again in the 7th with RBI singles by Jimmy Filter and Dillon Haupt. Zac Pettiford started for Mesa, and went five innings, before giving way to sophomore, Allen Townsend. Townsend struck out five in four innings, while picking up the save. Final score Mesa 6, Palomar 2.
Olympians Start off 2-0 in Leage Play
March 2, 2010 - Red-Shirt freshman Josh Maxwell would receive his first PCAC start against the Imperial Valley Arabs. He would allow only 2 earned runs from 5 hits during his 6 2/3 innings recorded. The Olympian offense was at it again, with a lead off double by freshman left fielder Brett Balkan after a 10 pitch at bat in the top of the first. Back to back doubles by freshman 1st baseman Lance McFeely, freshman catcher Dillon Haupt, followed a batter later by back to back singles by sophomore designated hitter Alejandro Diaz and sophomore 3rd baseman Daniel Galvan, would put the Olympians at a 3 to 0 advantage all the way through the 6th inning. Mesa would go on to score 2 more runs in the 7th and the 9th. Sophomore Allen Townsend would pitch the 8th and the 9th, holding the Arabs to a single run and recording a save. Final score Mesa 5, Imperial 3.
Filter Named PCAC Athlete of the Week
March 1, 2010 - Baseball players Jimmy Filter of San Diego Mesa College and Taylor Eichhurst from Grossmont have been selected as PCAC Men's Athletes of the Week.
Filter, a sophomore shortstop from La Jolla High School and a transfer from Yavapai (AZ) CC, helped Mesa go 2-1 for the week.
Filter was 9-for-13 in 3 games. Filter went 2-for-4 in a 2-1 upset win over Saddleback. He was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs in a 20-7 loss to Ventura. He led the Olympians to a 7-2 win over Grossmont in a PCAC opener, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored.
Mesa Opens PCAC Schedule With A Win Over Grossmont
Feb. 26, 2010 - With rain expected on Saturday, Grossmont and Mesa agreed to play on Friday to open the PCAC schedule. The decision proved to be a good one for the Olympians, as they put together a solid performance to knock off the Griffins. Mesa opened the scoring in the first inning, with a single by Jimmy Filter, followed by a home run by Lance McFeely, which bounced off the top of the fence in right. The Olympians were able to add another run in the 3rd, with a double to left center by Filter, and a double down the left field line by freshman catcher, Dillon Haupt. Grossmont scored two runs in the 4th inning, cutting the lead to one, but that would be all freshman, right-hander, Zach Pettiford would allow. Pettiford continued to get stronger as the game went on, striking out two in the sixth and two in the seventh, finishing with ten strikeouts in seven innings. Mesa would add four runs in the bottom of the eighth, with Filter again leading off with a double. McFeely was hit by a pitch and Haupt was walked to get to Kyle Ginter, who lined a double down the left field line. Myles Dempsey drove in Ginter with a base hit to right to account for the 4th run. Thomas Landeros threw the 9th inning for Mesa striking out two more Grossmont hitters. Final score Mesa 7, Grossmont 2. Jimmy Filter finished the week batting 9 for 13 with 4 doubles, 5 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Mesa Snaps the Streak
Feb. 23, 2010 - On a day when Mesa used nine pitchers, the staff limited the Saddleback College Gauchos (6-3) to 5 hits in 10 innings. The Olympians continued to hit the ball well, however, struggled to come up with two out RBI's throughout the game. The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the 10th. Myles Dempsey got the innings started with a base hit through the left side, followed by a sacrifice bunt by AJ Herrera. Brett Balkan and Kyle Ginter each walked to load the bases. Freshman catcher, Dillon Haupt worked the pitcher to a full count before driving in the winning run. Final score Mesa 2, Saddleback 1.
Mesa Gives Up Double Digits Agian
Feb. 19, 2010 - Red-Shirt freshman Ryne Saltsman received the start against Moorpark College. He pitched 3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. The Mesa bats began their assault in the 2nd inning with back to back to back singles by freshman catcher Dillon Haupt, freshman 1st baseman Lance McFeely, and freshman left fielder Kyle Ginter. Later in the fifth, the trio would again start the 5th inning with a walk by Haupt, a single by McFeely, and a 2 run scoring triple by Ginter. They were followed with singles from sophomore 3rd baseman Daniel Galvan and sophomore right fielder Donnie Frank. At the end of 9 innings, the Olympian offense had posted 10 runs on 13 hits, but it was not enough to catch Moorpark. Final score Mesa 10, Moorpark 14.
Mesa Takes Oxnard to Extra Innings
Feb. 19, 2010 - Freshman Zack Pettiford would receive the start against Oxnard College. He threw 6 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 earned runs. The Olympian offense started off hot scoring 3 runs in the first after 4 singles in a row by freshman 2nd baseman Myles Dempsey, sophomore catcher Alejandro Diaz, freshman designated hitter Dillon Haupt, and freshman right fielder Anthony Diaz. They would score again in the 2nd inning, but Mesa’s bats would go cold for the remainder of the game. Oxnard was able to score 1 un-answered run in the 9th inning giving them the victory. Final score Mesa 4, Oxnard 5.
Bakersfield Dozen Plus 3
Feb. 18, 2010 - Red-Shirt freshman Josh Maxwell would receive the start against Bakersfield College. After throwing 2 innings, giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits, the Olympian offense knew they had their work cut out for them. After being down 15 to 3 by the 5th inning, Mesa began the offensive charge. Freshman outfielder Kyle Ginter led off the 8th inning with a walk. With an error and 2 more singles by sophomore outfielder Donnie Frank and freshman 2nd baseman Myles Dempsey, the Olympians were able to scratch 3 more runs on the board. Sophomore pitcher Michael Hachadorian kept the game close, throwing 3 1/3 innings, not allowing a hit and striking out 8. Later in the 9th Mesa was at it again with back to back singles my sophomore designated hitter Alejandro Diaz and freshman catcher Lance McFeely. The Olympians were able to bat around the order, cutting Bakersfield lead to 5, but would be stop before any more damage could be done. Final score Mesa 10, Bakersfield 15.
Sleeping Bats Awaken
Feb. 16, 2010 - Freshman Zack Pettiford received the start against the Santa Ana Dons. After giving up 6 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings, things were not looking good for Mesa. However, their sleeping bats showed signs of life throughout the game. At the end of 9 innings, the Don's had defeated the Olympians, but not before Mesa College would score 7 runs on 14 hits. Final score Mesa 7, Santa Ana 13.
Rio Hondo Shuts Out Mesa
Feb. 13, 2010 - Sophomore Allen Townsend received the start against The Rio Honda Roadrunners with high hopes after retiring the first four batters of the game. However, by the 4th inning, the Roadrunners had scratched out 6 runs, 4 of them earned. The Olympians had no answer only reaching base 7 times with 3 hits, 3 walks, and a fielder’s choice. Final score Mesa 0, Rio Hondo 7.
Mesa Bats Stay Quiet
Feb. 12, 2010 - Mesa's bats stayed quiet on Friday against Rio Hondo community college. Freshman pitcher Josh Maxwell started the game and threw 4 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits and 6 runs, 5 of them being earned. The Olympian offense started to mount a comeback in the 5th inning with a lead off triple by freshman catcher Dillon Haupt. Sophomore short-stop Jimmy Filter followed Haupt's triple with a walk. Haupt would later score on a sacrifice fly by freshman 3rd baseman Kyle Ginter. Another fly out and walk in the inning put two runners on base with two outs. Sophomore 1st baseman Alejandro Galvan lined a 2 run double into left field clearing the bases, but the 3 runs recorded that inning would be the only spark from the Mesa bats all game. Final score Mesa 3, Rio Hondo 10.
Mesa Drops 2nd Game of the Season
Feb. 11, 2010 - Anthony Trajano gave College of the Desert an early lead with a 3-run blast off of freshman pitcher Zach Pettiford. Mesa showed signs of a comeback with a lead off walk by Alejandro Diaz in the bottom of the 3rd followed by an RBI single by Dillon Haupt. However, the Olympian offense was quieted for the remainder of the inning. College of the Desert increased their lead in the top of the 6th with a 2 run home-run by Eric Stewart off of freshman left-hander Cameron Castro. Sophomore pitchers Thomas Landeros and Allen Townsend threw two shut-out innings in the 8th and the 9th, holding the Roadrunner's lead to 4. However it was to no prevail when the Olympians did not score in the bottom of the 9th. Final score Mesa 1, College of the Desert 5.
Olympians Play Well but Fall Short
Feb. 4, 2010 - On opening day of the 2010 season, freshman Josh Maxwell pitched 6 strong innings, giving up just three hits and rendering the Eagles scoreless. Sophomore Thomas Landeros pitched well in relief, throwing two scorless innings without giving up a hit. However, Mesa was not able to hold their 1-0 lead going into the 9th inning. Mt. San Jacinto tied the game with an opposite field homerun, and later went ahead 2-1 with a sacrifice fly. Despite a lead off walk in the bottom of the 9th, the Olympians were not able to fill the 1 run defecit. Final score, Mesa 1, Mt. San Jacinto 2.
Opening Day is Just Around the Corner
The Mesa College baseball team will open it's season on Thursday, Feb 4 with a home and home series against Mt. San Jacinto College. Thursday's game will be played at Mesa College, and they will travel to Hemet on Saturday to complete the series. Last season, the San Jacinto Eagles were the Conference Champions out of the Foothill Conference, so Mesa it looking for a strong performance to start the 2010 season.
